Night 1 - Hachiko: A Dog's Story
Tagline - A true story of faith, devotion and undying love.
Directed by Lass Hallstrom (Chocolat, What's Eating Gilbert Grape and The Cider House Rules) and released straight to DVD on March 9, 2010 as Hachi - A Dog's Tale in the US (Rated G). When Parker (Richard Gere) finds a lost puppy at the train station he has no idea of the bond the two will form changing both their lives forever.
OK, you may as well get the box of Kleenx out right now because if this movie doesn't make you tear up, well... then there is something wrong with you 8)
Last year I let me mom pick the first night's movie and she chose Raintree County. That movie had such a warm response from our readers that I asked her to pick again this year. This time she chose a movie we had just recently watched, Hatchi - A Dog's Tale. Now, this may not be what you typically think of when you think love stories but this is most definitely a great love story. A love story of the bond one man has with his dog. Oh ya, did we mention it's based on a true story?
This is a family friendly movie with a G rating. If you are a fan of animals, love stories or just "nice movies" (as my mom would call them) then give this one a try. It really is a sweet movie.
Take a look at the original trailer ~ Please Note ~ While a main part of the story was not kept a secret when promoting this movie, if you want to have everything be a surprise to you do not watch past the 1:15 mark of the trailer.
There was not much trivia for this movie so instead here is a link to the real life Hachi and the true story that this movie is based on...

The original story is a tear-jerker. I couldn't get past the idea of taking it out of context to the point of switching continents, so I never got around to watching the re-make.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this movie. Great story.
