BATS  Collage Sheet  $3.50

How did you choose your shop name?
"JUNK is what we work with and MILL is what we do.
When I’m mixing elements in Photoshop to create the collage images, I imagine a little clockwork-style mill grinding away in the back of my brain with gears and whistles and smokestacks, so when I stumbled across the term, it just stuck. I like that it hints at what the shop is about, yet it has a bit of mystery. It’s actually a mining term for a huge drill bit designed to tear through junk, concrete and metal."

BROKEN HEARTED
Collage Sheet  $3.50

Why did you choose to make/sell what you do?
"After hunting high and low for cool, creepy collage sheets and coming up empty-handed, I started collecting my own images and putting together sheets for myself and my collage artist friends. When I discovered Etsy, I thought I’d list a few of the sheets “just to see,” and Junkmill was born. It turns out that my friends and I weren’t the only ones looking for dark and moody collage images. I offer a range of subject material, but the Gothic, spooky and creepy themes that started Junkmill continue to be some of the most popular."

ZoMBIE GIRLS
Collage Sheet  $4.50

What inspires the designs/creations you make?
"I tend to follow my own interests and whims when designing collage sheets. I always work from the premise that if I think an image or object is interesting, unique or inspiring, it’s likely others will too. I’m always drawn to macabre and kitsch imagery, like our zombie pin-ups, our retro horror magazine covers and our rockabilly girls, but I find inspiration everywhere – from Victorian books and turn-of-the-century lithographs to my collections of antique medical ephemera and vintage gumball machine toys. As my significant other (aka “the guy who drives all the shop orders to the post office”) explains it when his friends ask, “It’s humorous and horrifying at the same time, not that flowery, girly stuff.”

MACABRE OVALS
Collage Sheet  $3.50

What new designs/creations would you like to add to your shop in the future?
"In the next few months I’ll be adding vintage circus sideshow posters, Victorian medical illustrations and antique magic illustrations to the shop, as well as some very odd lithographs from a 19th Century bestiary and more pin-up girls … and, of course, whatever strikes my fancy in the interim. I’ve had a lot of new requests from customers for everything from Dr. Who to items for art journals and smash books, and many of those will likely make it into the shop as well. I always love the special requests – they never fail to inspire."

Since it's Halloween I had to asked the shops to share their favorite horror films.
"For sheer wide-eyed, up-all-night terror, nothing spooked me quite as like Jacob’s Ladder, though Session 9 came awfully close. But my hands-down favorite “horror” movie has to be Spider Baby. So kooky and creepy."

Attack of the 31 Nights of Halloween Movie List.
Follow along with us for a month full of classic and fun spooky movies. Each night there will be a movie review of the next movie on our Halloween Movie List. Leave a comment on each post with your opinion of that movie. On the last day you will find the magic phrase you will use to unlock the entry worth 25 entries in the giveaway. You must comment on each post.

Night 11 - The Strangers

Tagline - We tell ourselves there's nothing to fear - but sometimes, we're
              wrong.
Lock the door. Pretend you're safe.

Directed by Bryan Bertino and released on May 30, 2008 by Rogue Pictures (Rated R). A couple (Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman) decide to stay the night at a secluded cabin after they attend a friends wedding. They quickly find themselves in a nightmare as a knock at the door starts off a chain of horrifying events.

This movie promotes itself as Inspired By True Events. How much is true, who knows. It really doesn't matter. This movie if creepy, scary and just plain horrible. So why would anyone want to watch it? That's a good question 8) But if you like horror films then you want them to truly disturb you. This one does just that.

It plays on some simple misconceptions. We are safe in the light of day. We are safe behind a locked door. Simple things that we tell ourselves but of course are far from true. It's a story of 3 people terrorizing a couple for no other reason than because they were home. It's wrong on every level and stays with me long after I've watched it. Not always a good thing 8)

Take a look at the original trailer

Some trivia about the movie
1. Many theaters across the United States were sent faulty reels of the movie, containing sound problems, which made a few minutes to several scenes of the movie filled with nothing but static. Most movie-watchers didn't even realize the sound was a problem, since the dark overtone and loud background music at some areas make the static seem like part of the movie.
2. The script was originally titled "The Faces."
3. Arguably based on the 1981 Keddie Resort murders in northern California, although this has not been substantiated by anyone connected with the movie, with the writer claiming it is based on a childhood experience.
4. The film was shot entirely with hand-held cameras or steady cams. Every shot has some camera movement.
5. According to director Bryan Bertino the film is partially based on an incident he experienced as a child. One evening, a stranger came to his door, asked for someone who wasn't there, and left. Later, Bertino found out that other homes in his neighborhood had been broken into that night.
6. Shot in chronological order.
7. The exterior shots of the house were filmed at an actual farm house. The film makers were surprised to discover the property had a barn, garage, a forest and a long enough road.
8. The film makers tried to design the house as one that "your brother could have lived in, that you could have grown up in" in order to make the audience feel more attached to the film.
9. The movie was not shot inside of an actual house, the interior of the home was built on a sound stage.
10. During filming, in order to get an actual reaction from Liv Tyler, Bryan Bertino would tell her where to expect a loud bang from, but would then have the loud noise come from a completely different direction.
11. In one scene, Merle Haggard's "Mama Tried" plays loudly on the record player. His band was "The Strangers."

warning...warning...do not watch Strangers alone. LOL This movie freaked me the heck out! Because unlike movies that star killers such as Freddy or Micheal...the situation in this movie could REALLY happen. Given that fact as you watch the movie you slowly feel the hair on the back of your neck stand up and dont be surprised if you check the locks on the doors and windows before you crawl in bed..lol

  11. This isn't my style of horror films, I like creatures and ghosts, paranormal type stuff. Yes it was creepy, but I don't like that 'icky' feeling that sticks with you after. (Raine on rafflecopter buzzyngabe(at)yahoo.com

  14. Creepy enough but I'm not a fan of bouncycam movies...I'm always hoping that trend has passed.
Really want to see Spider Baby now, just based on the poster alone. And eat gummy spiders with it. :)

  18. This movie is really scary in the sense that it creates paranoia in whoever watches it. I agree that this movie should not be watched alone. You start wondering when this will happen to you and believe that it is completely possible, which it is, but we don't need to think or dwell on it as this movie makes us!

  19. I'm allways scary about movies with home invasions!I must see this one!

  20. Too bad, I am sure the library does not have a copy of this.
Life is too short to watch every movie.
