Tonight's Clue ~ A tall tale tells the story of a great love.

Night 11 ~ One Day

Tagline - Twenty years. Two people.

Directed by Lone Scherfig (An Education and The Riot Club) and released on August 19, 2011 by Focus Features (Rated PG-13). After one awkward night after graduation, Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess) spend the next twenty years of their lives fighting the inevitable.

One Day takes us on the journey of Emma and Dexter. Two people who meet briefly one night but end up making a lasting friendship that ultimately turns to love. It is interesting to watch a story where our character are not instantly in a relationship. Instead a story of a long lasting bond that has more than it's fair share of bumps along the way. While their story may not always be the happiest it will leave you with that great feeling that reminds you that real love does exist. Even if it might make you cry a bit in the process.

This movie is based on a novel by David Nicholls. I have not heard too many people who like the novel that are happy with the movie. This is nothing new. Though it is suppose to be a pretty faithful adaptation. I personally have never read the book and I really liked the movie.

One Day is currently available to stream on Netflix and is available to stream and rent on most DVD services.

Take a look at the original trailer.

Some trivia about the movie.
1. The scene where Dex and Emma go skinny-dipping is the only scene in the film where Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess were not wearing wigs.
2. There were some conversations about why cast an American actress to play Dexter's English mother but Lone Scherfig really liked the sense of experience, worldliness and flirtatiousness that Patricia Clarkson brought to the part.
3. Dexter's father mentions Silent Witness is coming up on the television. Ken Stott, who plays Dexter's father, appeared in Silent Witness (1996).
4. Anne Hathaway was clandestinely given the script as director Lone Scherfig wasn't looking at any American actresses for the part of Emma. Hathaway flew to London for a meeting with Scherfig which she described as "the worst meeting of my life.. I was just inarticulate". However, on leaving the director, she handed her a list of songs that she felt represented how she would interpret the character. It was this list that landed her the part.
