Murder Mystery Scavenger Hunt - Night 11
Our scavenger hunt will work like the game Clue this year. Every week you will be looking for clues to a different part of the mystery ~ Settings, Suspects, Rooms, Weapons and Escapes. They will be hidden within an item listing inside one of our participating shops. On each daily post you will be given a hint as to where the main clue is hiding. Once you find the clue go to the main Giveaway Post and find that night's entry on the Rafflecopter widget. You must leave the clue through the Rafflecopter! Do not post the clue anywhere on the blog. If you do it will be deleted and will not count. If you have any questions just ask.

Make sure to keep a list of all the clues as you collect them. On the last day of the giveaway you will be able to submit your guess of how the murder happened. Anyone who actually guesses correctly will win a Surprise Goodie Bag from Laughing Vixen Lounge. These goodie bags are made to suit your taste and usually end up being at least a $50 value! You can start the scavenger hunt game at anytime during the giveaway and go back to find past clues. Clues will stay posted through the entire giveaway.

Night 11
The usual suspects.
This week you will be collecting clues to the suspects of the crime.

Tonight's clue is hiding in Junkmill.
Need a little help finding the clue?  The boys in tonight's movie sleep the same way as these little guys.

Featured Shop - Junkmill

Junkmill is run by Chandra from Rockford, Michigan. Junkmill is filled with amazing digital artwork for all your crafting needs (you'll see lots of them in Laughing Vixen Lounge). And now all of these fabulous collage sheet are available for instant download through the Etsy shop! No more waiting for them to be emailed. Just a simple download after purchase.

Midway Digital Collage Sheet  $3.95

How did you choose your shop name?
"JUNK is what we work with and MILL is what we do.
When I’m mixing elements in Photoshop to create the collage images, I imagine a little clockwork-style mill grinding away in the back of my brain with gears and whistles and smokestacks, so when I stumbled across the term, it just stuck. I like that it hints at what the shop is about, yet it has a bit of mystery. It’s actually a mining term for a huge drill bit designed to tear through junk, concrete and metal."

Full Moon Digital Collage Sheet  $3.50

Why did you choose to make/sell what you do?
"After hunting high and low for cool, creepy collage sheets and coming up empty-handed, I started collecting my own images and putting together sheets for myself and my collage artist friends. When I discovered Etsy, I thought I’d list a few of the sheets “just to see,” and Junkmill was born. It turns out that my friends and I weren’t the only ones looking for dark and moody collage images. I offer a range of subject material, but the Gothic, spooky and creepy themes that started Junkmill continue to be some of the most popular."

Drug Therapy Digital Collage Sheet  $3.95

What inspires the designs/creations you make?
"I tend to follow my own interests and whims when designing collage sheets. I always work from the premise that if I think an image or object is interesting, unique or inspiring, it’s likely others will too. I’m always drawn to macabre and kitsch imagery, like our zombie pin-ups, our retro horror magazine covers and our rockabilly girls, but I find inspiration everywhere – from Victorian books and turn-of-the-century lithographs to my collections of antique medical ephemera and vintage gumball machine toys. As my significant other (aka “the guy who drives all the shop orders to the post office”) explains it when his friends ask, “It’s humorous and horrifying at the same time, not that flowery, girly stuff.”

Zombie Pin Ups Digital Collage Sheet  $4.50

What new designs/creations would you like to add to your shop in the future?
"I’ve been busy all summer building my collection of pre-Victorian books, so expect to see tons of great antique images hitting JUNKMILL this fall, including some very odd medical illustrations and new assortments of Medieval fairy tale inspired prints."

Goggle Girls Digital Collage Sheet $3.95

You'll have a chance to win 5 Digital Collage Sheets of your choice from Junkmill. Enter now on the main giveaway page.

Wistful Witches Digital Collage Sheet  $3.95

Visit Junkmill on Etsy.

Since it's Halloween I asked the shops to share their favorite spooky movie.
"For sheer wide-eyed, up-all-night terror, nothing spooked me quite as like Jacob’s Ladder, though Session 9 came awfully close. But my hands-down favorite “horror” movie has to be Spider Baby. So kooky and creepy."

Attack of the 31 Nights of Halloween Movie Marathon.
Follow along with us for a month full of classic and modern spooky movies. For something a little different this year we have decided to do themed weeks. Week 1 ~ Zombies, Week 2 ~ Werewolves and Vampires, Week 3 ~ Stephen King, Week 4 ~ Classic Double Features and Week 5 ~ Lounge Favorites.

On each daily post there will be a review of the next movie in our movie marathon. Leave a comment on each post with your opinion of that movie. On the last day of the giveaway you will find the Magic Phrase you will use to unlock the entry on the main Giveaway Post worth 10 entries. You must comment on each movie post to qualify.

Guess The Movie Game
This year we decided not to post the movie list in full so we can play a fun game instead. Each daily post will have a clue to the next night's movie. Leave your guess on the Rafflecopter widget, on the main Giveaway Post, for 1 entry in the giveaway. Please do not post guesses anywhere else on the blog or they will be deleted and not count.

**Guesses must be posted the same day as their clue to receive the entry** Rafflecopter runs on Eastern Standard Time. You can only post 1 guess per 24 hour period. So if you miss a day you can not make it up.

Tonight's Clue ~ It really "sucks" when your new neighbor is a Vampire.

Week 2 ~ Werewolves and Vampires

Night 11 - The Lost Boys

Taglines - Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow
old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire.
Being wild is in their Blood.

Directed by Joel Schumacher (St Elmo's Fire and Flatliners) and release on July 13, 1987 by Warner Brothers Pictures (Rated R). Sam (Corey Haim) and Michael (Jason Patric) move to the town of Santa Carla, CA with their mom to start a new life. Unfortunately Santa Carla is home to a hip gang of Vampires (Kiefer Sutherland). Michael has his eye on the Vampire girl (Jamie Gertz) but the gang has their eyes on him. Will Sam be able to save him with the help of the fierce Frog Brothers (Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander) or will Michael be doomed to wear black leather and a mullet for all of eternity?

This movie came out when I was in high school and we all thought it was the greatest thing ever! I'm serious, we were fanatic about this movie. Wearing jackets with the logo on the back? That's right. Calling each other by our favorite character's name? Oh yeah. And no, I won't tell you who I was. Ha!

It was the Twilight of my generation. Except it was a true outright Vampire movie. They roamed at night, killed people, terrorized the locals and then returned to their cave by the sea to hang by their creepy little bat toes. I saw it not too long ago and it's still a fun watch. Yes, there are things that are a bit dated and therefore slightly cheesy, but it is always a blast from the past.

Getting to visit the Santa Cruz boardwalk, where many scenes were filmed, about 10 years ago was a great experience. Having such a love for this film I had always wanted to go. And getting to ride the roller coaster, seen in the movie, was a blast!!!

Take a look at the original trailer.

Some trivia about the movie.
1. The title of the film is a reference to the companions of Peter Pan, who remained forever young.
2. The original screenplay written by Janice Fischer and James Jeremias was originally about a bunch of "Goonie-type 5th-6th grade kid vampires", with the Frog Brothers being "chubby 8 year old cub scouts", and Star being a boy instead of a love interest. Joel Schumacher hated that idea and told the producers he would only sign on if he could change them to teenagers, as he thought it would be more much sexier and interesting.
3. This movie invented the phrase "vamp out", which has passed into common usage on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
4. Kiefer Sutherland was only meant to wear the black gloves he wears as David when riding the motorbike. However, while messing around on the bike behind-the-scenes, he fell off, breaking his arm so he had to wear the gloves through the whole movie to cover his cast.
5. The names of the Frog brothers, Edgar and Alan, are a reference to Edgar Allan Poe, the well-known writer of horror fiction.
6. Characters in the movie say the name 'Michael' approximately 118 times.
7. This was Corey Haim and Corey Feldman's first film together, which marked the start of a popular 80s trend "The Two Corey's" in which Corey Feldman and Corey Haim starred together in a number of teenage films.
8. Both the bandstand that the band is playing on the first time Michael sees Star and the Frog Brothers comic book shop were destroyed in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
9. Keenan Wynn and John Carradine (a veteran of vampire films) were both original choices for Grandpa. Wynn died right before filming and Carradine was too ill.
10. Executive producer Richard Donner originally intended to direct the movie himself, but as production languished, he moved onto Lethal Weapon and eventually hired Joel Schumacher for the job.
11. Though almost all of Kelly Jo Minter's scenes are deleted from the film, and the only true appearance she makes is over Lucy's shoulder in the video store, she still received billing the film's opening credits. Her scenes can be viewed in the 2004 Lost Boys DVD special features.
12. Sam (Corey Haim) has a poster of Rob Lowe on the outside of his closet door. On the DVD commentary, Joel Schumacher says that it was there because had recently directed Lowe in St. Elmo's Fire.
13. Corey Feldman said in the documentary "bloodsucking cinema" that all the blood had glitter in it and was "slimier than other fake blood."
14. The movie was filmed in Santa Cruz, CA. Santa Cruz in Spanish means "Holy Cross," which is an interesting connection given the vampire subject matter and their vulnerability to crucifixes.
15. Both of the two 1987 movies about a "family" of attractive vampires who lure a young man and make him into a half-vampire before he is eventually "cured" (Near Dark and The Lost Boys) feature a son of Jason Miller in their casts: Joshua John Miller is in Near Dark, and his half-brother Jason Patric is in The Lost Boys.
16. The second time Sam visits the comic shop two men can be seen playing pinball. The guy with the facial hair is Joe Ferrara who actually owned the comic shop Atlantis fantasy world. The comic shop has now moved location but is still owed by Joe.
****If you have not seen the movie the rest of these will give away major plot points!!!****
**************************************************************************
17. David' (Kiefer Sutherland) is impaled on a pair of antlers and doesn't disintegrate like the other vampires. Despite what Max later says, he is not really dead. This was intended to be picked up in the sequel, "The Lost Girls", which was scripted but never made. In the Wildstorm comic's mini-series "The Lost Boys: Reign of the Frogs" (2008) - which helps bridge the 20-year gap between films - it's implied that 'David' not only survived the impaling but went on to create 'Shane' the head vampire in Lost Boys: The Tribe.
18. The movie didn't originally end on a joke. After the scene with Grampa at the refrigerator, it was supposed to cut to the surviving Lost Boys regrouping in the sunken hotel. The last shot was of a mural on the wall, made in the early 1900s, with Max in it - looking exactly the same as he did today. All of this appeared in an early draft of the script, but ultimately was never filmed.
19.  The merry-go-round sequence foreshadows the order in which the Lost Boys die. Marko dies first, Paul second, Dwayne third and David last.
20.  Corey Feldman, who plays Edgar Frog foreshadows how each of the vampires die: "No two vamps die the same way, some yell and scream, some go quietly, some explode, some implode..."
