Night 1 - Final Destination

Death Doesn't Take No For An Answer.

Directed by James Wong (The-X Files and Millennium) and released on March 17, 2000 by New Line Cinema (rated R). After boarding a plane for a class trip to France Alex (Devon Sawa) has a vivid premonition that the plane is going to crash. After causing a commotion a handful of the class is taken off the plane and forced to remain behind. They watch as the plane carrying their friends and classmates explodes in mid-air. Now, one by one, death is stalking them as they desperately try to change their fate.

This is a fun movie with lots of creative death scenes. Death is a very crafty soul! Plus, I thought it had a nice amount of suspense if it's your first time watching it. The makers paid great detail to foreshadowing the deaths to come. I watched the commentary on the DVD once and it's amazing how much hidden stuff is there if you know to look for it. There is a link below in the trivia section that has lots more of those kind of things. Beware though, some have spoilers.

And, as a special treat, we get to watch Seann William Scott as Hitchcock. Such a fun actor and he's a complete goober in this film.

As many horror films do this one spawned a whole mess of sequels. Personally, I don't find any of the other films much to talk about other than to say they are kinda stinky. The one huge exception is Final Destination 2. While the overall movie is not great the opening scene is the best part of any of the movies. If you have never watched one, these movies all have big slam-bang opening scenes. The opening of number 2 is by far the best and a truly scary bit of movie watching. To not give too much away for those who have not seen it I'll just say "highway pileup". If you haven't seen it go watch at least the beginning. You won't want to drive your car again. Oh, and never ever a motorcycle! Oooh, poor motorcycle boy.

Some trivia about the movie...
1.  The story was originally the concept for an abandoned The X Files television script.
2. The woman at the check-in desk at the airport tells Alex that the plane leaves at 9:25, which is the same as his birthday (25th September). When he gets on the plane he sits in seat I (which is the 9th letter of the alphabet) and the seat is in row 25.
3. When the students are boarding the airplane, Alex looks down from the jetway and sees a luggage cart with the number 666 on it.
4. Clear's cabin was also the cabin from Lake Placid.
5. The music played throughout the movie was by John Denver, a musician who died in a plane crash.
6. Alex's chicken spread was actually mushed up banana.
7. Most characters in the film have last names after directors and stars of old black and white horror films. Hitchcock, Browning, Lewton, Schreck, etc.

  8. Y'know I have to be completely honest and say that I have never seen this movie! I want to! My husband saw it without me years ago when we were still dating! I do enjoy Seann William Scott a lot, and the creative ways they kill people off is pretty awesome.

  12. I have only seen this one, the original Final Destination. I liked it, it wasn't too gory and it was very inventive with the ways they came up with for characters to be killed.
