Fear Friday - Supernatural Edition..."My Bloody Valentine"

It's Friday all you hep Dolls and Kats. That means a new "Fear Friday and the start of "Supernatural Week" . So come on in and join us in kicking off "Supernatural Week" at The Lounge with this week's Supernatural inspired movie selection.
"My Bloody Valentine - 2009"

Directed by Patrick Lussier (Dracula 2000 and the upcoming Halloween III 3D) and released on January 16, 2009 by Lionsgate. Starring Jensen Ackles (Supernatural), Kerr Smith (Dawson's Creek) and Jamie King (Gary Unmarried). In the mining town of Harmony a horrible accident kills 5 people in the mine. The one survivor awakes from a coma on Valentine's Day and kills 22 people. Amongst the dead are a bunch of teens who were having a party down at the mine (yeah, that sounds like a smart idea!). Only a few teens survive. Skip forward 10 years as everyone comes together again in the small town. People have changed, things have changed but the one this that remains the same....It's Valentine's Day and people are gonna start dying!

Jensen Ackles aka Dean Winchester from Supernatural

My mom and I went to see this in the theater when it opened. I thought the 3D would be fun and we both have watched Supernatural from the start so I had to go watch Dean on the big screen. First off, this was my first new 3D experience and my last. Only a small portion of the screen can be in focus at any one time with the new 3D technology. So the whole movie was blurry and hard to watch. I ended up with a horrible migraine. Though the small bits of 3D did look pretty cool.

                              Nice guns on the boy

The movie itself was quite fun. I've yet to watch the original so I had no idea going in how the story went. It ended up being fun and kept me guessing who the killer was. Early on I had my suspicion but it was good at making me doubt my choice. I flopped like a fish back and forth until the end. Which is a good thing in my book. I don't want to completely see the ending coming from a mile away.

                                Ackles, King and Smith

Beyond that it's pretty much your standard slasher film. Nothing to terribly original but lots of fun none the less. If you want something that won't make you think too hard and has some pretty boys to look at, then pop some popcorn and settle in with this little gem.

Some trivia about the movie...
1. The first two characters killed on screen are named Jason and Michael, an homage to characters from the Friday the 13th and Halloween series where the killers are non-speaking. A direct reference to the films is how they die - trademark features of the characters.
2. The film was made into a haunted house at Universal's "Halloween Horror Nights".
3. A flyer on a wall indicates that Valentine's Day is Saturday, February 14th. That would mean the previous day is Friday the 13th.

  1. LOVE the new cassette tape player! Carry on Wayward Son got me even more excited for Supernatural week and the premiere if that's even possible.

I agree about the movie though. Fun, nothing too special. I'd still see a sequel if they ever made one. More Jensen on the big screen is always a good thing. ;)
