How did you choose your shop name?
"Deep Midnight refers to the darkest hour of the night...not true midnight. It's more around 1:30-2:30. It seems I am always up at this time like a good vampire."

Why did you choose to make/sell what you do?
"I love artisan perfumes and love creating them! I cannot wear alcohol/aerosol based products and I am also very allergic to a lot of chemicals. I started making perfume oils for myself back in 1996. In 2003 I began selling locally and started on Etsy in 2010. I love creating scents and enjoy the challenge and fulfillment of a truly great scent that myself and others can enjoy."

What inspires the designs/creations you make?
"History and fantasy are the really big inspirations and the real people and characters found therein. I love Ancient Britain and Ireland, Victorian England, Ancient Egypt and Rome, and other eras. I also love classic and fantasy books, and theater as inspirations. I have college degrees in history and anthropology and minors in chemistry and English literature so all that helps!"

How did you choose your shop name?
"Miss Bohemia originated from the word ‘bohemian’. I was drawn to this word as it is a term taken to mean 'free of rules' and unconventional! This seemed perfect for both me and my artistic creations, which often fuse everything from dark fairytales to literary classics."

"I have always loved to express myself through being creative. My shop ‘Miss Bohemia’ allows me to see my dreams and designs come to life through jewellery, accessories and clothing and it’s such a rewarding process!"

What inspires the designs/creations you make?
"I tend to draw inspiration from everywhere and believe that beauty and magic can be captured from almost everything. I like to combine a mix of modern and vintage elements in my work and this probably developed from my love of art, costumes and jewellery from different eras. I also love reading and my choices vary from fairytales to literary classics, to thrillers and I love books that are able to fuse these elements together. You will see this spill over into my work in the form of romantic, fairytale and literary designs fused with darker elements like the Phantom of the Opera Jewellery and Wuthering Heights."

I asked each shop to share one of their favorite Vacation Photos with us.
"I chose the photos because I got to visit the FIESA sand sculpture festival and it was amazing! They had a mythological theme which included giant sand sculptures of Elves, the Valkyrie, the Mermaids and Greek Gods. Another reason why I remember it was because the map to visit the sculptures showed it as a straight line and nearby so we set off on foot and ended up walking for 2 hours in the hot sun before we got there – it was worth it though"

Washington ~ 1993
That's me, Kris, next to one of the Pacific Northwest's most famous residents ~ Bigfoot. My cousin Carla was out for a visit from Minnesota and we drove up to Washington to see Mt. St. Helens. She said one of the things she wanted to see on her trip was Bigfoot. Well, these two guys were as close as we came.

How did you choose your shop name?
"I had an earlier shop that did not last long. The designs I created then used a lot of old Pin Up and Pulp Fiction Novel covers. I love those images and wanted to focus on them in my new shop so Vixen seemed a good word to run with. And I like the idea that every woman has a hidden Vixen somewhere inside them. Lounge came from wanting a visit to the shop to feel like you were somewhere you could sit and hangout at. After multiple suggestions Lounge won out because it has that old-school retro vibe to it. And Laughing... well, I needed something else to make it unique enough to not have problems with someone else already having it."

Why did you choose to make/sell what you do?
"I bought a bracelet at a local store once and it had very cute Paris themed photos on it. I loved the idea of it but the way it was made it was always pinching my skin. It made me want to make my own version but better. But long before that I always loved making crafty things. It's what I really wanted to do after high school but there just was not anything like Etsy and the internet then to make having your own shop so accessible."

What inspires the designs/creations you make?
"I was at work, sitting at lunch, and I saw a bracelet from a now nonexistent shop that had Lucite rectangles with Pin Ups inside. It was exactly what I had in mind for my shop. I took that idea and ran with it developing my own style and vision. One look at my shop people will see that the designs come from my love of all things Pop Culture, Retro and Horror. Books, movies, music, fairytales, TV, holidays... I love it all and I try to bring that out in my work. And I love to help someone else bring their vision to life with custom designs."

"Oh my stars! I have so much stuff just waiting to get in the shop. So many styles of Bracelets and Pendants and Compacts. In addition I also have Purse/Bag Hangers that are also little Compact Mirrors and Pill Boxes. Very cute!!! Rings, Lockets, Book Marks, Keychains, Purse/Bag Charms... all just sitting on the bookshelf waiting to be listed. I am also working on cataloging my charms (1,000+) so I can list lots more Custom Designs and customers will be able to choose from my entire inventory."

Fear Friday ~ Roadside Intervention or How To Lose Your Mind!!!

Welcome to Laughing Vixen Lounge and a new month of Fear Fridays. In celebration of summer being right around the corner, and our Fabulous Spring Giveaway, all of the movie selections in May will have a road trip theme to them. I mean really, what better setting for a scary film than the side of the road in the middle of nowhere?!! This week's movie is a fairly unknown thriller from 2013 that shows us that the side of the road in the middle of the desert is not the best place for an intervention!!! While our story starts with the best of intentions it quickly spirals into a devastating turn of events. Enjoy! 

Every Friday at the Laughing Vixen Lounge Blog is Fear Friday. Fear Fridays are a celebration of all films spooky. Horror is a very broad genre and the Lounge loves it all. Each Friday you will find a review of a different film. These can range from Classic Horror (black and white and cheesy), Thrillers (suspense, jumps and a good mystery), outright Horror (chop chop, slash slash, die die) and anything else in between.

Fear Friday - Scenic Route

Tagline - There is no turning back


Directed by Kevin and Michael Goetz (Mass Transit and Tycus) and released on August 23, 2013 by Vertical Entertainment (Rated R). Carter (Dan Fogler), who misses spending time with his best friend Mitchell (Josh Duhamel), takes the scenic route home and fakes a breakdown. But when their last hope for a ride leaves they find themselves truly stuck in the middle of nowhere.

I really liked this movie!!! Not to oversell it because it really is a simple movie but it is character driven and plays on the theme of how quickly things can spin out of control. Our two characters are stuck in the desert because one of them decided to pretend that their truck broke down. Why? Because he misses spending time with his best friend and feels that his friend has made majorly bad choices in his life. Think of it like an intervention. When a car stops to help he must admit that there is nothing wrong and why he did what he did. It's only after the car leaves that the story really begins.

It was an interesting watch to see how anger, resentment and a lot of really hot sun can turn two best friends against each other. The trailer below may seem to show the whole movie but what you see all plays out in the first 20 minutes. And while the end has confused some I thought it was really good but will not give anything away here as to not spoil it for those who have not had a chance to experience it. I guess this would be more of a thriller than a horror film and the gore factor is quite low.

Each year my blog hosts 3 big giveaways - October, December and February - that include a great group of shops. This year we are adding a Spring Giveaway. For those of you who have book specific blogs - Many of our shops have Book/Literary designs that we think would be a great fit with your readers. The provided post for your blogs will feature book related designs so it will fit with your blog. This giveaway can be a fun offering for your followers that still keeps with the theme of your blog.

Our original 3 giveaways have their own themes and events attached to them. For example, October has a month long Spooky Movie Marathon and a Murder Mystery Scavenger Hunt. We invite participating blogs to do the same. Make the provided giveaway post a little more you by adding a vacation photo. Any one will do - vintage or new. Caption the photo with a sentence or two letting your followers know where and when it was and any memories that go along with it.

The Laughing Vixen Lounge Blog has Fear Fridays each Friday. Movie reviews of all films spooky. During the giveaways the movies reviewed fit the theme of the giveaway. For the May giveaway they will all have a Road Trip theme. What spookier setting for a movie than your car breaking done in the wrong place!
