Since it's Christmas (and good help is hard to find!), this movie favorite is from my sister : )

"While Funny Farm isn't specifically a Christmas themed movie, it does have a large part of the plot taking place during the holiday.  This movie is a favorite throughout the year.  I love Yellow Dog!!"

And here's is the one thing my family lets my sister make for holiday gatherings.

Deviled Eggs

hardboiled, peeled eggs

mayonnaise

yellow mustard

paprika

optional: salt and pepper, sour cream

Cut eggs in half length-wise and remove yolks placing them in a bowl.

Break up the yolks with a fork (or fork and knife) until you have a fairly fine granular consistency.

Start your yolk mixture with a large spoonful of mayo. Start with less rather than more! For about 8 yolks

I start with about 1/4 cup mayo. Mix until smooth and creamy, adding more mayo or sour cream as needed.

Add 1/2 tsp of yellow mustard, or more to taste. This gives the eggs some tang and brightens up the yellow color lost with the mayo.

You should have a smooth and slightly stiff mix. Avoid the over soft or runny mix!

Arrange the whites on a plate. Add the yolk mixture with a spoon or a piping bag. Yes, they look much nicer if you use the piping bag (or ziplock bag with the corner snipped off), but if you are careful a spoon works fine.

Sprinkle the tops with a pinch of paprika and serve.

Featured Shop - Vegan Sudz Shop

Vegan Sudz Shop are run by Nikole from the Allentown, MI. Her shop is full of fun and crazy soaps for all ages.

Have a Nice Day Soap Set

How did you choose your shop name?
"I was a vegan for over 10 years when I decided to open my shop, so that part was easy. As for the "Sudz" part, well that was just being lazy because I'm selling soap."

S'more Soap Scrub

Why did you choose to make/sell what you do?
"I was so tired of spending big loot on expensive soaps and lotions at stores, and still not being 100% sure that the ingredients in them weren't coming from the inside of some poor animal or that they were even decent enough to actually put on my skin, so I figured out how to make them myself. And after forcing them on my friends and family and seeing that they actually used them, loved to use them on their kids and even asked for more... well that started me down the path of branching out and forcing them on people I don't know for money :)"

Whipped Face Lotion

What inspires the designs/creations you make?
" Other than my quest for happy veganism worldwide and the understanding that natural just equals better, I've always loved cute, creepy, weird, obnoxious and just plain odd things. And since a lot of my soaps are geared towards kids having fun at bath time, I just assume they all want something creepy and weird just like I did!"

Tiki Man Soap

What new designs/creations would you like to add to your shop in the future?
"I have SLS Free Shampoos and Conditioners and all natural deodorant that I've been meaning to cram in everyone's face forever now, but I want to make sure everything is perfect and groovy before launching them, plus, I'm too lazy to take the pictures to post them on Etsy."

Featured Shop - Junkmill

Junkmill is run by Chandra from Rockford, Michigan. Junkmill is filled with amazing digital artwork for all your crafting needs (you'll see lots of them in Laughing Vixen Lounge). And now all of these fabulous collage sheet are available for instant download through the Etsy shop! No more waiting for them to be emailed. Just a simple download after purchase.

RETRO HOLIDAY Digital Collage Sheet

How did you choose your shop name?

"JUNK is what we work with and MILL is what we do.

When I’m mixing elements in Photoshop to create the collage images, I imagine a little clockwork-style mill grinding away in the back of my brain with gears and whistles and smokestacks, so when I stumbled across the term, it just stuck. I like that it hints at what the shop is about, yet it has a bit of mystery. It’s actually a mining term for a huge drill bit designed to tear through junk, concrete and metal."

12 DAYS of XMAS Digital Collage Sheet

Why did you choose to make/sell what you do?

"After hunting high and low for cool, creepy collage sheets and coming up empty-handed, I started collecting my own images and putting together sheets for myself and my collage artist friends. When I discovered Etsy, I thought I’d list a few of the sheets “just to see,” and Junkmill was born. It turns out that my friends and I weren’t the only ones looking for dark and moody collage images. I offer a range of subject material, but the Gothic, spooky and creepy themes that started Junkmill continue to be some of the most popular."

VICTORIAN GIFT TAGS Digital Collage Sheet

What inspires the designs/creations you make?

"I tend to follow my own interests and whims when designing collage sheets. I always work from the premise that if I think an image or object is interesting, unique or inspiring, it’s likely others will too. I’m always drawn to macabre and kitsch imagery, like our zombie pin-ups, our retro horror magazine covers and our rockabilly girls, but I find inspiration everywhere – from Victorian books and turn-of-the-century lithographs to my collections of antique medical ephemera and vintage gumball machine toys. As my significant other (aka “the guy who drives all the shop orders to the post office”) explains it when his friends ask, “It’s humorous and horrifying at the same time, not that flowery, girly stuff.”

MERRY MINIS Digital Collage Sheet

What new designs/creations would you like to add to your shop in the future?

"I’ve been busy all summer building my collection of pre-Victorian books, so expect to see tons of great antique images hitting JUNKMILL this fall, including some very odd medical illustrations and new assortments of Medieval fairy tale inspired prints."

Since it's Christmas, I asked the shops to share their favorite holiday movie.

"Try as I might, I just can’t think of a movie that reminds me of the holidays more than Die Hard. Nothing captures the holiday spirit quite like Bruce Willis battling terrorists at an executive Christmas party. I remember watching it with my brother endlessly when we were young, and it always seemed to be on infinite repeat over Christmas break. Give me a big cozy blanket, a cup of my Insane Hot Chocolate and surround sound set to eleven and I'm set.”

For a little holiday fun, I asked the shops to share with us some of their favorite recipes and craft how to's.

Insane Hot Chocolate

"This rich cinnamon hot chocolate is great for getting all sugared up and trimming the tree or wrapping packages. It’s my take on classic hot chocolate, amped up with a little cappuccino mix and tons of super-sweet toppings."

2 Tbsp. Instant hot chocolate

1 Tbsp. Maxwell House International Café Cinnamon Dolce Cappuccino (the powder mix that comes in the little rectangular tins)

Handful Miniature marshmallows

Handful miniature semi-sweet chocolate chips

Reddi-wip whipped cream

Mix powder hot chocolate and powder cappuccino in a large mug. For super-smooth, no lumps hot chocolate, add just enough boiling hot water to cover the powder, stir until blended and lump-free. Place marshmallows in mug then add 8 oz. boiling water. As the water hits the marshmallows, they melt into the hot chocolate forming an ooey-gooey layer of deliciousness. Top with a generous portion of Reddi-wip whipped cream. Sprinkle Cinnamon Dolce Cappuccino mix on top of the whipped cream and garnish with miniature chocolate chips. Delicious!

Since it's Christmas, I asked the shops to share their favorite holiday movie.

"The Wizard of Oz always ran right around Thanksgiving and for me it represented the start of winter. To this day, it's still a family tradition to watch it."

For a little holiday fun, I asked the shops to share with us some of their favorite recipes and craft how to's.

APPLE CARAMEL PIE

Deep dish pie crust
1 bag of Kraft caramels
10 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 tblsp lemon juice
1 tblsp rum flavoring
2 tblsp butter
1/3 cup of brown sugar
½ cup flour
¼ cup margarine
1 tblsp of cornstarch

Drizzle lemon and rum flavoring over apples
and set aside.

Combine dry ingredients, adding the butter
last and stir together. Mixture should be
crumbly.

Place apples into pie shell. Sprinkle with the flour mixture.

Bake in a preheated oven at 400 degrees for 30-
45 minutes. Remove pie and let cool a little.

Melt caramels in the microwave, adding a touch of
milk to help mixture become smooth and
creamy. Pour over pie and allow it to cool
completely. (Hot caramel can burn the mouth
so let it cool, no matter how anxious you are to
try it!!) Enjoy!!
