Fear Friday ~ "I Said Don't Go In There!"

 

It's almost June and the Laughing Vixen Lounge Blog will be rolling out more weekly posts. I know it's usually hit and miss around here and ends up just being giveaway posts. But I'm gonna give it the college try and bring you more regular fun. To kick it all off is the start (again!) of one of the original weekly features from the Lounge. Enjoy!

Fridays at the Laughing Vixen Lounge Blog are Fear Fridays. Fear Fridays are a celebration of all films spooky. Horror is a very broad genre and the Lounge loves it all. Each Friday you will find a review of a different film. These can range from Classic Horror (black and white and cheesy), Thrillers (suspense, jumps and a good mystery), outright Horror (chop chop, slash slash, die die) and anything else in between.

Fear Friday - House At The End Of The Street

Directed by  Mark Tonderai (Hush) and released on September 21, 2012 by Relativity Media (Rated PG-13). Elissa (Jennifer Lawrence) and her mom (Elisabeth Shue) move into a new house for a fresh start. The house is great and it came at such a good price. Maybe that's because the house next door was the site of two brutal murders. Go figure! Of course Elissa starts to fall for Ryan (Max Thieriot) who lives there. Is he the sensitive misunderstood guy that she thinks he is? Or is there something more going on in the house at the end of the street? Muahhhhh!

I'm not usually big on PG-13 scary films simply because they are rarely ever very scary. Hence the rating. This one surprised me though. I'm not talking big scares here but it was suspenseful and I actually jump a time or two. After this many years of watching horror films, making me jump is not a simple thing to do.

OK, the story is far from original and yes, you know a lot of what will probably happen. This is nothing new in the horror genre so that doesn't bother me much. It's more about how they present the same old ideas that makes a movie fun. I'm not saying this is the best movie out there but it made for an fun watch. Jennifer Lawrence and Max Thieriot (who I now know from the new Bates Motel show on A&E) were both enjoyable to watch. If you like an easy to watch thriller I would recommend this one.

House at the End of the Street is available on DVD and currently on Netflix streaming.

1. The project was originally announced in 2003 with Jonathan Mostow directing and Richard Kelly scripting.   
2. The film was shot in the 2-perf Techniscope format to provide a grainy image reminiscent of older horror films and to save money on film stock and processing. Despite this, "Filmed in Panavision" is listed in the end credits.

Murder Mystery Scavenger Hunt Clue - Night 14
Each night you'll find the next clue in our Murder Mystery Scavenger Hunt. It will be hidden within an item listing inside one of our participating shops. You'll be given a hint as to where the main clue is hiding. Once you find the clue go to the main Giveaway Post and find that night's entry on the Rafflecopter widget. You must leave the clue through the Rafflecopter! Do not post the clue anywhere on the blog. If you do it will be deleted and will not count. If you have any questions just ask.

Night 14
Our mystery comes to an end. Did you guess who the murderer was before you found the clue?


It looks as if Mr. Whale has been set up to look like the guilty party but Detective Heathmoor noticed a few things that proved it was actually Ms. Browning.
1. Ms. Browning was wearing Mr. Whale's jacket when they entered the manor. This gave her time to remove the maroon button from the jacket.
2. Ms. Browning was very cozy to Mr. Whale as she helped wipe the spilt drink off his jacket. This gave her time to remove the scarf from his pocket without anyone noticing.
 
"You were very clever in making it look like Mr. Whale had done it but you forgot one thing when you left the crime scene." Detective Heathmoor turned to Ms. Browning. "You forgot the glass on the floor. The glass that has lipstick not in Madame Corman's shade but yours."

Ms. Browning stood there with a devilish grin on her face. "She found out you where the one blackmailing Mr. Castle and threatened to turn you in." Detective Heathmoor said.
"She deserved what she got!" Ms. Browning exclaimed. "Threatening to ruin me like that. And Mr. Whale was the perfect fool to take the fall." She laughed.

The mystery has been solved, the guilty taken away, the guest have gone home and Raven Perch Manor is quiet once more.
