Night 7... "The Notebook"
Oh my stars! Where's the Kleenex box?

Music selections from the movie on the jukebox
1. I'll Be Seeing You
*******
Directed by Nick Cassavetes (John Q, Alpha Dog and My Sister's Keeper) and released on June 25, 2004 by New Line Cinema. Allie (Rachel McAdams), who comes from a well-to-do family, and Noah (Ryan Gosling), who comes from a poor family, meet one night and fall in love. Allie's parents disapprove and keep the two apart for many years. Will love find a way when the two meet again? Or has too much time passed? And just how many boxes of Kleenex will you need to get through this movie?

I'm a sucker for romance and this is super sticky sweet with it. While the end is a little much, and varies from the book, the love story, told in flash backs, is just too good to resist. It has all the good stuff...love at first sight, longing as they are separated, a big sweeping reunion and of course love conquers all.

It will make you cry, unless you happen to be missing a heart, but you need one of these from time to time. The time travel through the eras is fun and the music and outfits are great.

A little trivia...
1. Ryan Gosling built the kitchen table featured in the movie in preparation for his role as Noah.
2. Ryan Gosling was the director's (Nick Cassavetes) first and only choice for the role of Noah. Before Cassavetes, Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise and Justin Timberlake were also once attached to the project but backed out.
3. The "after 7 years Allie and Noah" scenes were shot first and then the crew/cast went on a Christmas break. Ryan Gosling had to lose the beard and 20lbs he'd had as the older Noah and come back to play the young Noah. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling were rather shy and unsure around each other in the "after 7 years" scenes but were more comfortable together in the young Allie and Noah scenes.
4. Ryan Gosling prepared for his role by living in Charleston, South Carolina before filming began. For two months, he rowed the Ashley River in the morning and built furniture during the day.
5. Gena Rowlands, who played older Allie in the movie, is the director's (Nick Cassavetes) mother.
6. Ryan Gosling (Young Noah) wore brown eye contacts because James Garner (Old Noah) has brown eyes, and Gosling has blue.
7. It wasn't in the script that Allie would play the piano, but director Nick Cassavetes felt that it was right, for that's what wealthy young ladies of the 1930s-1940s did. Allie's song is 'Frederic Chopin''s Prelude in E minor Opus 28 #4.

  4. The Notebook is one of those movies likely to make me cry. Ryan Gosling is incredible in any role he takes on, although I'd prefer watching him in Lars and the Real Girl.
