Fear Friday ~ Getting Older Has Never Been So Rough

Another Friday means another piece of (good or bad) cinema history! Keeping with the birthday theme this week's film features a whole bunch of sweet sixteen teens that are far from enjoying their day. It's also directed by one of the masters of horror. Enjoy!

Every Friday at the Laughing Vixen Lounge Blog is Fear Friday. Fear Fridays are a celebration of all films spooky. Horror is a very broad genre and the Lounge loves it all. Each Friday you will find a review of a different film. These can range from Classic Horror (black and white and cheesy), Thrillers (suspense, jumps and a good mystery), outright Horror (chop chop, slash slash, die die) and anything else in between.

So pop some popcorn, kill the lights and enjoy tonight's selection. And please, share your comments on the film. Bad or good let me know what you thought of it. And now, my little ghouls and dolls, the Laughing Vixen Lounge Blog is proud to present this week's film.

Fear Friday - My Soul To Take

Tagline - Only One Has The Power To Save Their Souls

Directed by Wes Craven (Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream) and released on October 8, 2010 by Rogue (Rated R). A serial killer vows to return and murder the seven children who were born on the day he was killed. Sixteen years later, on the their birthday, the legend looks to be coming true.

While Wes Craven has made better movies, and some way worse ones, this was a pretty good watch. Not too scary or gory but interesting enough to hold my attention. It kept me guessing 'til the end and entertained me for an hour and a half. If you haven't seen it give it a try when there's nothing better on the TV.

Take a look at the original trailer (spoilers beware!)

Some trivia about the movie...
1. This is the first film that Wes Craven has both written and directed since New Nightmare.
2. In an attempt to promote the film, Rogue Pictures staged a fake stabbing at the movies premiere and posted it onto the popular video viewing site YouTube, which showed a man being "stabbed" in front of Wes Craven and the rest of the cast of the movie, using a plastic knife. The video was then later confirmed to be fake.
3. Originally titled '25/8'. Wes Craven announced on October 19, 2009 that the title was changed.
4. The title 'My Soul to Take' was taken from the children's prayer: "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take."

Fear Friday ~ Some People's Children!

Happy Friday everyone! Here is your next dose of birthday mayhem as the birthday themed fun continues here at the Lounge. This week's selection is a mostly unknown film from the early 80's. You can find it on Netflix and DVD. Enjoy.

Every Friday at the Laughing Vixen Lounge Blog is Fear Friday. Fear Fridays are a celebration of all films spooky. Horror is a very broad genre and the Lounge loves it all. Each Friday you will find a review of a different film. Fear Friday - Bloody Birthday

Tagline - The Nightmare Begins With The Kids Next Door
                Have a bloody good time!!
Mum won't like it!! But the kids will!!

Directed by Ed Hunt (Alien Warrior and The Brain) and release on April 28, 1981 by Rearguard Productions (Rated R). Three children born on the same night during an eclipse grow up to be evil little killers. Darn those eclipses!

This movie is low on the gore factor, and does show it's age, but is still an interesting watch. 3 creepy kids that have no problem getting rid of anyone who stands in their way or says no to them. It's traditional slasher fare but with young kids as the killers which makes it seem a bit wrong. But that wrong is what works.

If you haven't seen it, and are a fan of the genre, give this one a try.

Take a look at the original trailer (Beware ~ it does show a lot of the death scenes)...

Some trivia about the movie...
1. Despite popular belief that the film was shelved for five years after being shot it has been confirmed that it was shot in early 1980 and released the following year.
2.  The house depicted in the films colorful German poster is the same house from the mini-series Salem's Lot.
3.  The films French title is Les Tueurs de l'éclipse, meaning "The Killers of the Eclipse" and its German release title was Kinder des Teufels, meaning "Children of the Devil."

When Cute Boys Meet Bad Hair ~ Groovy!

Things have been a bit hectic around the Lounge but have no fear! This Vixen is busy working on all of the big fall events that will be happening here at the LVL Blog. Lots of mayhem and mischief to be had by all. Oh, and lots of free stuff!

First up will be the next Supernatural Cares Giveaway & Fundraiser (still trying to pin down the start date but very soon!). Then you can look forward to in October, The Fall Fashionista Giveaway ($150) and the Lounge's 3rd annual "Attack of the 31 Nights of Halloween Giveaway". And that's just the start! Stay tuned....

But for today I offer you this bit of fun. The new teaser trailer for the movie "American Hustle". Period pieces are always fun and, being a child of the 70's, it looks very nostalgic. The 2 best reasons to watch it? Well, it has that Bradley Cooper in it. So really, do we need another reason? OK. The other reason is for all the 70's hair. Oh my stars! The ex-hairdresser in me can not stop giggling at these hairdos. Cooper with a "I can't believe anyone would have done that to their hair" perm, Jennifer "How high can my hair go" Lawrence and Christian Bale's comb-over is fabulously awfully.

Have a groooovy Thursday baby!

Fear Fridays ~ Is That A Drill In Your Hand Or Are You Just Happy To See Me???

The birthday fun continues here at the Lounge. All this month Fear Friday will have a birthday theme to celebrate this Vixen's birthday. Tonight's film is classic 80's horror. And while no one is actually having a birthday in it, if you were like me you either had or went to a few slumber parties in your younger days. The biggest and best ones where always for a birthday. So I think this "gem" fits right in with the theme. Enjoy this little 80's flashback!

***Winners of the Happy Birthday To Me Mystery Giveaway***
The winners are...
Raine D.
Alice B.
Each of the lucky winners will receive a goodie bag filled with surprise items from Laughing Vixen Lounge custom made just for them! I'll post photos of the items before they ship.

Every Friday at the Laughing Vixen Lounge Blog is Fear Friday. Fear Fridays are a celebration of all films spooky. Horror is a very broad genre and the Lounge loves it all. Fear Friday - The Slumber Party Massacre

Tagline - Close your eyes for a second... and sleep forever
               The Ultimate Driller Killer Thriller

Directed by Amy Holden Jones (Maid to Order and Rich Man's Wife) and released on November 12, 1982 (Rated R). A group of high school girls have a slumber party when one of the girl's parents go out of town. Unfortunately for them it's the same day an escaped murderer is on the loose in their neighborhood. Hmmmm... I wonder what's going to happen?

This movie is exactly what you'd expect from it. Lots of half naked young women being chased by a loony tune with a power drill. A really big power drill! If you like 80's styled slasher films this one will not disappoint. It's silly, cheesy and a fun watch.

Take a look at the original trailer (spoilers and lots of boobies!)...

Some trivia about the movie...
1. Rita Mae Brown wrote a screenplay for a parody of teen/slasher flicks and titled it "Sleepless Nights". However, when she submitted it to the producers, they filmed it as if it weren't a parody and retitled it "Slumber Party Massacre". As a result, the movie displays a lot more humor, both intended and unintended, than others of this genre.
2. The original first draft of the script was called "Don't Open The Door".
3. Michael Villella deliberately avoided talking to the other cast members during the shooting of the picture.
4. Michael Villella read the book "Helter Skelter" in order to research the role of Russ Thorn.
5. The entire score was done on a Casio synthesizer.
6. The big conclusion in the backyard with the swimming pool was added to the movie in a reshoot.

Fear Fridays ~ Light Up Those Candles Again

What's more fun than a bad horror film? A handful of bad horror films all in a theme! Today is this Vixen's birthday so all month Fear Fridays will be full of birthday mayhem. Oh, what better way to bring on another year of life then with lots of death scenes and bad acting? This week's selection is the most fun of the bunch and I think I just might watch it again myself. Enjoy!

**Happy Birthday To Me Mystery Giveaway. Enter here for your chance to win a mystery goodie bag full of treats from Laughing Vixen Lounge. 2 will be given away. Ends August 8th**

Fear Fridays ~ Happy Birthday To Me

Tagline - Pray You're Not Invited To The Party
John Will Never Eat Shish Kebab Again
Six of the most bizarre murders you will ever see
               R.S.V.P or die!

Directed by J. Lee Thompson and released on May 15, 1981 by Columbia Pictures. Virginia (Melissa Sue Anderson) belongs to the most popular clique at her private school. She's happy, doing well in her classes and having fun. One problem though is that chunk of her memory she lost after that nasty little car accident last year. Oh yeah, and the fact that all of her friends are being killed off one by one!

I thought this was an appropriate choice for this week's selection since it's my birthday. I remember when this movie came out in the theater but I was a little too young to have seen it then. But I do remember lots of kids talking about it and the famous shish kebab scene that was used on the posters and cover of the VHS box. I watched this and if you grew up during the slasher era of the 80's, or are just a fan of the genre, it's a fun little movie. No great acting or writing here but isn't that half the fun? If you're old enough to remember watching "Little House on the Prairie" then you will recognize our main character as Mary Ingles. Wow, what a departure!

If you haven't seen it, or it's been a long while, give it a play. It's good cheesy fun with a nice twisty twist ending.

Take a look at the original trailer...

A little trivia about the movie...
1. Most ads and posters for film carried a photo of a young man about to be orally impaled with a skewer of meat and vegetables, with the slogan "John Will Never Eat Shish Kebab Again." However, there is no character in the movie with this name.
2. Many fans were upset with the 2004 DVD release from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment because, not only did it have a completely different cover to that of the infamous original poster and VHS cover, it featured a disco score in place of the atmospheric piano piece that originally played over the opening credits in theaters and VHS releases. In 2009, Anchor Bay/Starz Home Entertainment re-released the DVD using the original poster as the cover and restoring the original music over the opening sequence.
3. The press reported that in order to keep the "twist" ending a secret several endings were shot. This is untrue but helped hide the fact that while shooting, the film had no ending. The script was written with one ending that made sense to the story, but did not have a twist. So producers proceeded to film while tinkering with a twist. This explains why there is no build up to the ending.
